Our Origins
Since 1931, Yat Guan has grown to become a long-standing partner to global leaders such as ExxonMobil, Shell, Sony, GSK, Volvo, and Becton Dickinson. We specialize in high-performance wooden pallets, skids, crates, and custom packaging solutions that keep industrial supply chains moving efficiently and safely.
Driven by innovation and backed by nearly a century of expertise, Yat Guan continues to help businesses strengthen logistics reliability and sustainability across Asia and beyond.
1931 - 1960
Foundations of Craftsmanship
Yat Guan began as a one-man operation founded by Mr. Lim Boon Qian along Church Street, Singapore. Specializing in wood salvage and wooden box manufacturing, he built a reputation for quality workmanship and dependable service—laying the foundation for what would become one of Singapore’s most trusted industrial packaging companies.
Growth and Industrial Expansion
Under Mr. Lim Thiam Tee, Yat Guan expanded across four sites—Synagogue Street, Church Street, Palmer Road, and Havelock Road—to meet growing demand. By the 1960s, the company evolved with Singapore’s manufacturing boom, becoming a key supplier of wooden pallets and export packaging for the nation’s emerging industries.
1961 - 2013
Resilience and Regional Reach
When the Bukit Ho Swee fire of 1961 destroyed the Havelock and Palmer Road sites, Yat Guan rebuilt stronger. Operations were consolidated at Sungei Kadut, while expansion into Malaysia marked the company’s first step toward regional growth.
By the mid-1970s, Yat Guan had become one of Singapore’s first large-scale pallet manufacturers, serving leading corporations across Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and beyond.
Innovation and Modernisation
Under Mr. Lim Beng Qui, Yat Guan entered a new era of innovation with the installation of Singapore’s first in-house heat treatment facilities at the Sungei Kadut plant. The company achieved ISPM-15 certification soon after, significantly improving production efficiency, quality control, and export readiness for global partners.
Since then, we have gone on to implement heat and fumigation pipeline at our Tuas and Malaysia facilities.
2014-2021
Safer, Smarter Manufacturing
Under the leadership of Mr. Lim Er Lin, great-grandson of founder Mr. Lim Boon Qian, Yat Guan continued modernising its operations through stronger safety practices, digital design tools and greater production automation.
In Singapore, our operations achieved bizSAFE Level 4 certification, while digital design systems were introduced to improve product planning and accuracy. Together, these investments strengthened efficiency, consistency and safety while supporting a lean, skilled and experienced team.
Resilience Through COVID-19
COVID-19 exposed the fragility of regional supply chains, disrupting timber availability and cross-border operations across Singapore and Malaysia. For Yat Guan, the experience reinforced the importance of strong industry relationships, flexible operations and dependable supply networks.
By working closely with long-standing partners, we adapted through uncertainty and emerged with a clearer focus on resilience, continuity and sustainable growth.
Present
Driving Innovation with a Legacy of Trust
Building on generations of experience, Yat Guan continues to invest across Singapore and Malaysia in responsible sourcing, stronger quality systems and modern technology. Since 2021, both operations have achieved PEFC Chain of Custody certification, while Malaysia has expanded its capabilities with IPPC heat-treatment facilities and ISO 9001:2015 certification.
At the same time, continued investment in automation, hydraulic handling systems and 3-axis CNC technology has strengthened production efficiency and flexibility, while initiatives such as Yat Bot and the integration of AI into internal workflows are helping us improve responsiveness and streamline day-to-day operations.
Together, these developments help Yat Guan work more efficiently and respond faster, offering customers a broader range of capabilities with the consistency and reliability they have come to expect.
